Signs My Cooling System Needs to Be Serviced

Generally, it is recommended that the cooling system is serviced every 30,000 miles. During this service, we drain the old coolant, flush the system to remove all of the dirt and debris, and check the system for leaks and wear and tear. If you fail to have your cooling system inspected every 30,000 miles, you may end up with one or more of the following problems. Do not worry. We are here to help, so call us today to schedule a cooling system inspection if your vehicle is overdue for one.

Leaking Coolant

As we mentioned above, one of the things that we check for when we inspect your cooling system is leaking coolant. You cannot afford to have the coolant leaking out of the cooling system. When this happens, the level of coolant in the system gets too low and your car starts to overheat.

You will realize that you have leaking coolant because, in most cases, it will drip onto the garage floor. Unfortunately, if the water pump or thermostat is leaking, you may not be able to tell unless you look at them and see that they are corroded. If they are, they have a slow leak.

Poor Circulation

Another thing that we mentioned above is that we flush your cooling system when we inspect it. This removes all of the dirt and grime that can build up inside of the system, including the radiator. If your cooling system gets clogged, the coolant will be unable to circulate through the engine to cool it off.

One of the things that can cause poor circulation is a faulty water pump. Generally, the water pump lasts about 100,000 miles before it breaks down. If you drive an older automobile and the engine is running too hot, it could be that the water pump is unable to circulate the coolant effectively.

Overheating

Finally, all of the above can make your engine overheat whenever you drive your automobile. If you have seen the temperature gauge rise on the dashboard above the normal level, there could be a problem with your cooling system. If your cooling system is overdue for service, it could be leaking, clogged, or you may not have coolant circulating through it. Unfortunately, this will make your car overheat all the time. Driving with a hot engine can damage the engine severely.

Call us today to schedule an appointment for your automobile if you are overdue for a cooling system service or if you are having problems with the cooling system.
